Sofia Vergara Changes Stance On Modern Family Revival
Sofia Vergara alters her previous stance on a Modern Family revival. One of the most beloved modern sitcoms, Modern Family originally ran for 11 seasons from 2009 to 2020. It was nominated for numerous Emmys and Golden Globes over the course of its run, and remains a beloved series. In addition to Vergara, Modern Family features a leading cast including Ed O’Neill, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Rico Rodriguez, Sarah Hyland, and Ariel Winter.
Reversing her previous stance, Vergara tells The Hollywood Reporter (via Collider) her stance on whether or not she would return for a Modern Family revival. Responding to the question of if she would revive her role as Gloria Pritchett, she said that she “would do it in a second.” Vergara admitted that she did not “know if it would do good or bad,” but that she would love to be involved. While this most recent statement seems like an overwhelmingly positive endorsement of her participation in potential future Modern Family seasons, Vergara’s stance on the matter has not always been that clear-cut. Back in January of this year, Vergara was asked about a Modern Family revival when she appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. At that time, the actress said that because it had only been four years since the series ended, it would probably be too soon for a revival of the series, but joked that a reboot would have to come quickly due to O’Neill’s age.
Now, it seems like Vergara is more amenable to the idea of a Modern Family reboot, even if she is not confident in the potential show’s quality. This is a great sign for any Modern Family fans, because the success of a reboot would likely hinge on the return of Gloria. As much as she is used for comedic timing and over-the-top scenes, Gloria is the heart and soul of Modern Family. The series turned Vergara into a major TV star, and in turn she made the series what it is.
As of now, there are no active plans for a Modern Family reboot. However, Vergara is not the only actor who has been open to it, as O’Neill has also expressed interest in reprising his character. Additionally, the Modern Family cast members have had multiple personal reunions with various permutations of the cast in the years since the show’s ending. These get-togethers show a lasting cast closeness that would help the ensemble show should it go back on air again.
